Restless Nights? Blame Your Bedroom

Factors that Makes You Sleepless at NightYou may not realise it, but your bedroom can sometimes be the culprit of your restless nights. Along with your pre-bedtime habits, the overall ambience in your sleeping area can affect the quality of your sleep. If you find it hard to doze off and stay asleep at night, the light, noise, temperature and dust in your room are more likely to be blamed.

It is hard to maintain a restful sleep when your bedroom is too bright at night. When your body sense light, it fools you into thinking that it is not bedtime yet. Turn off any electronic devices or remove any gadget that emits any form of light. If the light is coming from the outside, use dark curtains or blockout roller blinds from It is also beneficial to replace bright light bulbs with dimmer ones.

Loud noises that are impossible to ignore can disrupt your sleep. Utter silence, however, can also be a problem, as you may find yourself focusing on other sounds like a ticking clock or a dripping faucet. If the problem is loud noise, use ear plugs. You can also use a white noise machine to cancel out other sounds that can disrupt your REM sleep.

A restful night is easier to achieve with lower core body temperature. If your bedroom is too hot, you’ll find it hard to stay asleep throughout the night. Experiment with different temperatures to find the right one for you. You can regulate room temperature using fans and air conditioner. Keep in mind that your clothing, blanket and bedding play a role, too.
